Silent Hill 2 Remake developers dream of a horror in the “Lord of the Rings” universe

Bloober Team, the studio behind the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 Remake, recently revealed a fascinating concept: a Lord of the Rings survival horror game. While the project ultimately fell through due to licensing issues, the idea of a grim, Middle-earth-set horror experience captivated fans and developers alike.

According to game director Mateusz Lenart, in a recent Bonfire Conversations podcast, the vision was a dark and immersive survival horror title, exploring the shadowy corners of Tolkien's world. The rich lore of Middle-earth, filled with inherently dark and unsettling elements, provides fertile ground for such a project. Fans widely agree the potential was significant.

However, Bloober Team is currently concentrating on their new title, Cronos: The New Dawn, and potential future collaborations with Konami on Silent Hill projects. Whether the studio will revisit their Lord of the Rings horror concept remains uncertain, but the possibility of terrifying encounters with Nazgûl or Gollum continues to intrigue.
