The Pokémon GO Tour: Unova event introduces a new free feature: the Tour Pass. Many players initially focused on the cost, but this pass is free for all! Let's break down what it offers.

What is the Pokémon GO Tour Pass?

The Tour Pass, debuting with the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova global event, is a system for earning rewards. Players complete tasks to accumulate Tour Points, unlocking rewards, increasing rank, and boosting event bonuses.

The free Tour Pass is automatically awarded upon event start (February 24th, 10 AM local time). A paid Deluxe version ($14.99 USD or equivalent) offers an instant Victini encounter, upgraded rewards, and faster progression.

Earning Tour Points & Rewards

Tour Points are earned via in-game activities: catching Pokémon, raiding, hatching eggs, and completing daily Pass Tasks. These points unlock rewards, increase rank, and enhance bonuses.

Higher ranks unlock better rewards (Pokémon encounters, Candy, Poké Balls, etc.) and increase Catch XP bonuses:

1.5x Catch XP at Tier 2
2x Catch XP at Tier 3
3x Catch XP at Tier 4

Niantic hasn't revealed all rewards, promising more details later. The free pass's top tier offers a Zorua encounter with a special background, while the Deluxe pass culminates in a Lucky Trinket.

What is a Lucky Trinket?

The Lucky Trinket, a Deluxe Pass exclusive reward, is a one-time-use item. It transforms a friend (at least Great Friends level) into a Lucky Friend, enabling a Lucky Pokémon trade without requiring Best Friend status. Note that these Trinkets expire on March 9, 2025.
