Launched in October 2024, Pokémon TCG Pocket largely replaced Pokémon TCG Live for many players. The game has already seen the addition of the Mythical Island booster pack with 68 new cards, following the initial Genetic Apex packs (226 cards across three packs). With another expansion anticipated in January, speculation arose about the future utility of Pack Hourglasses. These concerns have now been addressed.
Screen Rant reported on a statement from The Pokémon Company confirming the continued use of Pack Hourglasses. The statement clarifies that these hourglasses will continue to reduce booster pack opening delays by one hour, regardless of the expansion. Prior to this confirmation, some players suggested a new expansion-specific currency. While this remains a possibility in the future, The Pokémon Company confirmed it's not the case for the upcoming 2025 expansion. This announcement allows players to confidently continue stockpiling hourglasses for future use.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Pack Hourglasses: Here to Stay
Without Pack Hourglasses, players earn Pack Stamina at 12-hour intervals, allowing for two booster pack openings daily. Pack Hourglasses are obtainable through daily challenges and the daily-renewing Complimentary Item Set in the shop. Each hourglass reduces the Pack Stamina wait by one hour (12 hourglasses are needed for a full 12-hour interval). Beyond Pack Hourglasses, the game features various currencies including Wonder Hourglasses, Special, Event, and standard Shop Tickets, Poké Gold, and Pack Points.
Rumors about Pack Hourglasses becoming obsolete in the next expansion understandably worried some players. However, The Pokémon Company's announcement should alleviate these concerns. Given the game's success, further expansions for Pokémon TCG Pocket are highly likely.
