Take-Two CEO Optimistic About Nintendo Switch 2

May 25,25(6 months ago)

As the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 looms less than a month away, the gaming industry buzzes with discussions about pricing, tariffs, and game key cards. Amidst this, third-party publisher Take-Two Interactive expresses a high level of confidence in the upcoming console. In a recent Q&A session with investors following their full-year earnings report, CEO Strauss Zelnick shared his "great optimism" for Nintendo's new platform, highlighting an improved relationship with Nintendo compared to previous experiences.

Zelnick elaborated on Take-Two's commitment to the Nintendo Switch 2, stating, "We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform." Historically, third-party publishers have found it challenging to work with Nintendo, but Zelnick praised Nintendo's recent efforts to be more accommodating. He added, "And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform. In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis, we obviously want to be where the consumers are. But we would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well."

Take-Two plans to release four key titles on the Nintendo Switch 2: Civilization 7 on launch day, June 5; the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (specific titles and release dates to be announced); and Borderlands 4 on September 12. These selections are not surprising, given Take-Two's history of publishing these franchises on the original Nintendo Switch. However, Zelnick's comments suggest that the door might be open for additional titles, particularly from Take-Two's extensive back catalog. While GTA 6 is unlikely to make an appearance, there's potential for GTA V to be ported to the new console in the future.

In a pre-investor call interview, Zelnick also discussed Take-Two's recent performance and provided insights into the development timeline of GTA 6, including thoughts on its recent delay to next year.
