Legendary Entertainment's upcoming Street Fighter film adaptation has found its director: Kitao Sakurai, the creative force behind the comedic masterpiece The Eric Andre Show. This news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, highlighting Sakurai's role as director, writer, and executive producer on the project.

Capcom's significant involvement is confirmed, lending credence to an authentic adaptation. The film is slated for release on March 20, 2026. This marks another attempt to bring the iconic fighting franchise to the silver screen, following the 1994 cult classic starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ming-Na Wen, and the late Raul Julia.

While casting details remain under wraps, fans can anticipate seeing their beloved Street Fighter characters grace the screen. The project initially saw Danny and Michael Philippou (directors of Talk to Me) attached, but they departed in 2023. Sakurai's selection suggests a potential shift towards a more absurdist, perhaps cartoonish, tone, a direction that many fans, including myself, find appealing given the game's inherent stylistic elements.
