However, Neil Druckmann, the creative force behind the series, delivered a surprising revelation to the franchise's most ardent supporters.
During a joint interview with screenwriter Craig Mazin, who is involved in the adaptation of the game series, Druckmann opened up about his experiences following the release of the sequel amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. He shared his struggles with feeling unwell, becoming fixated on certain thoughts, and how solitude intensified his introspection. The situation was exacerbated when he turned to the internet, reading reviews and engaging with debates about his work. This led him to question his creation, wondering if he had indeed produced something flawed that might have tarnished the series' legacy.
When the topic of a potential third installment was broached, Druckmann expressed a resigned sigh, indicating he anticipated the question. He candidly stated that fans should not hold their breath for a new The Last of Us game, hinting that the story might have reached its conclusion.
