Anbernic, a popular manufacturer of retro handheld consoles, has announced a suspension of all U.S. orders due to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies. As reported by The Verge, the company advised customers to prioritize purchasing products from their U.S. warehouse, which are not affected by the new import duties, ensuring a seamless buying experience. Unfortunately, orders that require shipping from China will not be processed during this period.

Anbernic is well-known for its affordable Game Boy clones, which are typically shipped directly from China upon release, with additional stock being stored in U.S. warehouses. However, not all products are available for shipment from the U.S. This means that some highly sought-after items, such as the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H, will no longer be accessible to American players.

The current U.S. administration has imposed tariffs of up to 145% on imports from China, with warnings that tariffs on certain products, including electric vehicles, could escalate to as high as 245% when combined with existing levies. While some businesses might absorb these costs, they are more commonly passed on to consumers. This shift is already affecting the prices of tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.

Anbernic is actively seeking a resolution to assist customers who may face custom fees during this challenging period. They are committed to finding a suitable solution to mitigate the impact of these new tariffs.

In related news, Nintendo officially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Although pre-orders were initially scheduled to start in early April in the U.S., uncertainties related to tariffs both in the U.S. and Canada prompted Nintendo to postpone the pre-order date to April 24. Despite the delay, Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and its games, but has increased the prices of most Switch 2 accessories.
