Marvel Shuffles Spider-Man and Avengers Release Dates
Disney's recent announcement to postpone Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars means fans will have to wait longer to see Earth's mightiest heroes reunite on the big screen.
Avengers: Doomsday is now scheduled for release seven months later, on December 18, 2026, while Secret Wars will follow a year after that, on December 17, 2027. Amid these adjustments, fans are also discussing Spider-Man's role.
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is set to return next year in the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day, releasing on July 31, 2026. This film will continue Peter’s journey after the events of No Way Home, where his identity was erased from everyone's memory.
Prior to Disney's scheduling shift, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was set to release after Avengers: Doomsday, effectively placing a Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film between the two Avengers installments. Reports suggested that Disney and Sony had been exploring another multiverse-themed storyline, fitting the current direction of the MCU.
Now, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day—which hasn't begun filming yet—scheduled before either Avengers movie, fans are hopeful the next Spider-Man story will have more room to breathe, potentially focusing on a grounded, street-level narrative within the Marvel universe.
Consider the original scenario: Avengers: Doomsday would likely end on a major cliffhanger, similar to Avengers: Infinity War, ensuring audiences return for the resolution in the sequel. As a key Avenger, Spider-Man would presumably be involved—or his absence would need explanation. In this context, Brand New Day would either have to follow up on those events, take place earlier, or ignore the larger stakes unfolding elsewhere.
"That completely changes things for Spider-Man 4," one fan commented on Reddit regarding the delay and Brand New Day's new release slot. "At least in terms of how we assumed it needed to fit chronologically between both films. Now it seems it won't."
"If Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn't delayed as well, it likely confirms it won't be a multiverse Battleworld movie," another fan speculated, referencing the pocket dimension where Marvel heroes are stranded during the original Secret Wars comics.

Overall, Spider-Man fans are eager to see more of the character in his own stories, swinging through New York’s streets instead of being swept into cosmic conflicts with the Avengers. For many, Disney's delay is welcome news.
"This is the best Spider-Man 4 update we’ve received," one fan remarked.
"With Brand New Day releasing before Doomsday, it opens the door for a grounded story, which aligns with recent rumors and casting news," added another, pointing to online speculation about villains suited for a street-level New York adventure.
Earlier this month, Liza Colón-Zayas—known for her role as Tina Marrero on FX's The Bear—was reportedly cast in Brand New Day. Fans speculate she may play the mother of Miles Morales, the popular alternate Spider-Man expected to make his live-action debut following his success in Sony's Spider-Verse animated films.
As part of the updated release calendar revealed last night, Disney also removed an untitled Marvel project originally slated for February 13, 2026. Many believe this was a placeholder for the long-delayed Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, which now appears unlikely to tie into this phase of the MCU, if it happens at all.
Other Marvel film dates—November 6, 2026 and November 5, 2027—have been changed to "Untitled Disney" releases. If these are not Marvel-related, the MCU's film output will be relatively light in the coming years.
The rest of 2025 features The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July, while TV series like Ironheart and Wonder-Man are set to debut on Disney+.
Next year's Disney+ lineup will include the second season of Daredevil: Born Again (expected in spring), a Punisher special presentation, and Vision Quest, the Paul Bettany-led series that has quietly begun production.
