Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar, randomly spawning in specific areas. These animals are easily identified on the mini-map by their white icons (as opposed to machines' black icons). They tend to avoid players and robots.

Moose and boar are found exclusively in the game's ruined city and forest zones. Their behavior (fleeing or attacking) depends on the level difference between you and the animal. Higher-level animals might become aggressive even without direct provocation. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging.

Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife, simplifying their defeat.

Wildlife, unlike machines encountered during the main storyline, doesn't respawn continuously. To farm them, you must explore, eliminate wildlife, and then move to new areas. Respawn mechanics are similar to those for machines:

• Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
• Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawns in previously visited areas.
• Story progression can also cause respawns.

There's no dedicated Beast Hide farming method. Consistently eliminating wildlife encountered while exploring the forest and city ruins usually provides sufficient hides. The drop rate is reasonably high, preventing the need for excessive stockpiling.
