The writer of the Wesley Snipes' Blade trilogy, David S. Goyer, has expressed his readiness to step in and help resolve the issues surrounding Mahershala Ali's stalled Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) reboot of the iconic vampire hunter.

Blade, once an eagerly anticipated addition to the MCU, has encountered numerous setbacks, leaving fans disheartened about its future. The project, announced back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con, was initially slated for a November release. However, it has seen multiple directors come and go, including Yann Demange and Bassam Tariq, without any lasting progress.

Recent comments from those involved with the film have painted a bleak picture. Rapper and artist Flying Lotus, who was set to compose music for the film, took to X/Twitter to confirm that the project has been abandoned. "I guess we are so far from it even being a possibility now but. Yeah I was signed on to write music for the new BLADE movie before it fell thru," he stated. His sentiments were echoed by costume designer Ruth E. Carter, who was preparing to design costumes for a 1920s-set Blade, as she revealed on The John Campea Show.

Actor Delroy Lindo, who was set to star alongside Ali, shared his disappointment with Entertainment Weekly, recounting how the project initially seemed promising and inclusive but ultimately "went off the rails."

Amidst this uncertainty, Goyer, who wrote and directed entries in the original trilogy, expressed his confusion and eagerness to contribute to the reboot. "I would," he told ScreenRant when asked about writing the MCU's Blade. "I’ve always loved the character and I love him. I’ve been sitting on the sidelines wondering, ‘What in the world is going on? Why is it taking so long?’ Because I’m a huge Marvel fan myself, and I’ve just been totally puzzled."

Despite the film being removed from Marvel's release schedule seven months ago, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige remains committed to the project. In an interview with Omelete in November 2024, Feige reiterated, "We are committed to Blade. We love the character, we love Mahershala's take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You're all up to date on what's happening. But I can tell you that the character will indeed make it to the MCU."

In other MCU news, the film Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring a cameo from Wesley Snipes reprising his role as Blade, became a massive success, grossing $1.3 billion globally. Ryan Reynolds, star of Deadpool, advocated for Snipes' Blade to receive a send-off similar to Hugh Jackman's Logan, acknowledging the original Blade films' pivotal role in paving the way for the superhero genre. "There is no Fox Marvel Universe or MCU without Blade first creating a market," Reynolds posted on X/Twitter. "He’s Marvel Daddy. Please retweet for a Logan-like send-off."

Furthermore, Reynolds is reportedly in the early stages of developing a Deadpool and X-Men movie, where Deadpool would share the spotlight with several X-Men characters, allowing them to take center stage in unexpected ways, as per THR.
