Capcom Tames Monster Hunter Wilds PC Requirements
As the release date of Monster Hunter Wilds on February 28 draws closer, Capcom is actively considering adjustments to lower the game's recommended GPU requirements. This information was confirmed by the official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account, which also disclosed Capcom's interest in developing a standalone PC benchmarking tool.
Currently, Capcom suggests using an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT to achieve 30 FPS at 1080p. These minimum specs involve an internal resolution of 720p, with upscaling to 1080p facilitated by technologies like DLSS or FSR, set to the "lowest" graphics setting.
For those aiming for smoother gameplay, the recommended settings for Monster Hunter Wilds target 1080p at 60 FPS, leveraging upscaling and Frame Generation technologies. Suggested GPUs include the RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT. Notably, only the RTX 4060 supports Nvidia Frame Generation, whereas the 2070 Super and 6700 XT rely on FSR 3, which experienced ghosting artifacts during the previous beta of Monster Hunter Wilds.
Digital Foundry advises that using Frame Generation to target 60 FPS might not be optimal, suggesting a baseline of 40 FPS for third-person games. Running below 60 FPS with upscaling can lead to increased latency, affecting the game's responsiveness.
The open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds revealed challenges for players with lower-end hardware, even those using mid-range cards like the RTX 3060. A prevalent issue was a low-LOD bug that prevented the game from loading detailed textures for characters and monsters.
Developed on Capcom's RE Engine, which debuted with Resident Evil 7 in 2017, Monster Hunter Wilds joins a lineup of titles including Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise, and Street Fighter 6, known for their smooth performance across various platforms. However, the engine has faced criticism in larger, open-world games like Dragon's Dogma 2, which experienced performance issues on both consoles and PCs. This raises concerns for Monster Hunter Wilds as it approaches its early February open beta and late February launch. Capcom's efforts to reduce GPU requirements could be crucial for the game's success on the PC platform.
