Tentacle Tactics

Nu Udra presents a significant challenge in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its extensive tentacles make dodging difficult, but they also offer melee fighters close-range attack opportunities. Severing its arms yields valuable materials, but proceed with caution—these limbs pack a powerful punch.

Target the Mouth

Ranged weapon users have more strategic options. However, the mouth remains the optimal target, boasting a 4-star weakness. While harder to spot due to Nu Udra's dark coloration, it's worth the effort. The head is another viable option, offering a 3-star weakness to ammo damage, and remains effective for blunt and cut damage.

Harness the Power of Watermoss

Nu Udra possesses a fire affinity. In addition to its limb attacks, it unleashes fiery assaults, even igniting itself, inflicting the dangerous Fireblight debuff. Using Watermoss is highly recommended to mitigate this threat and enable safer attacks.

Embrace Fire Resistance

Struggling against the Black Flame? Equipping fire-resistant gear is highly advisable. The Quematrice armor set, with its Fire Resistance skill, is a strong recommendation. Consider also using decorations that reduce elemental damage, such as the Fire Res Jewel or the Stream Jewel (for enhanced Water Attack).

Evade the Grabbing Menace

Nu Udra's grab attack is particularly dangerous. If caught within its reach, it will ensnare you with its tentacles, pausing briefly before unleashing a fiery blast. During this pause, use a knife to break free, or counterattack its weak point with a Slinger.

Capturing the Black Flame

To capture Nu Udra, prepare either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, deployment requires weakening the monster significantly—look for the skull icon next to its health bar. Luring it with meat or simply running behind the trap while it targets you are effective strategies. Once trapped, quickly use a Tranquilizer (you have about five seconds before it breaks free).
