Chrono Trigger is celebrating its 30th anniversary with numerous releases throughout the next year

Square Enix has proudly announced that the iconic JRPG, Chrono Trigger, has reached its 30-year milestone. This significant anniversary is set to be celebrated with a series of exciting projects slated for release over the next year. While the specifics of these projects remain under wraps, the language used by Square Enix hints at possibilities that could extend well beyond the game itself, sparking widespread speculation and anticipation among fans.
For decades, enthusiasts of Chrono Trigger have eagerly awaited a comprehensive remaster or a modern console release. Despite its revered status as one of the most cherished JRPGs ever created, the game has yet to receive a full-fledged remake or a re-release on PlayStation beyond the PS1 port back in 1999. Over the years, it has found its way to PC and mobile platforms, but a definitive modern version continues to elude fans. Given Square Enix's history of revisiting its classic titles, there remains a glimmer of hope for a more substantial update.
In the meantime, the only confirmed event for the anniversary is a special livestream concert featuring Chrono Trigger's legendary soundtrack. This concert is scheduled to air on YouTube on March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT and will continue into the early hours of the next morning.
For those new to the game, Chrono Trigger is an epic time-traveling RPG developed by a dream team that included Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest mastermind Yuji Horii, and the legendary Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama. Originally launched in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows protagonist Crono and his companions as they traverse various eras, from a prehistoric world teeming with dinosaurs to a dystopian future dominated by an alien force. Players will recruit allies, manipulate history, and confront one of gaming's most memorable final bosses.
The 30th anniversary marks a monumental moment for Chrono Trigger, and while there's no official word yet on a remake or console port, Square Enix's announcement keeps the possibility alive. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to Chrono Trigger's X page for the latest updates on what's in store.
