Crash 5 Scrapped Post-Developer Independence
A former Toys For Bob concept artist's recent revelation suggests a potential Crash Bandicoot 5 was canceled. Let's delve into the details of Nicholas Kole's comments and the implications for fans.
A "Project Dragon" and a Lost Crash Game
Former concept artist Nicholas Kole hinted on X (formerly Twitter) about a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5, alongside another scrapped project, "Project Dragon." While initially speculated to be Spyro-related, Kole clarified it was a new IP developed with Phoenix Labs. His comment, "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," ignited a wave of disappointed reactions from fans.
The news comes after Toys For Bob's transition from Activision Blizzard to an independent studio following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Interestingly, Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for their first independent title, though specifics remain undisclosed.
The last major Crash Bandicoot installment, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (2020), achieved impressive sales exceeding five million copies. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter concluding its live service in March 2024.
With Toys For Bob now operating independently, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open. However, the cancellation of a previously developed game leaves fans anxiously awaiting any official announcements regarding the franchise's future.
