NPC Studio's *Fields of Mistria* has garnered acclaim for its compelling marriage candidates, engaging dialogue, and thoughtfully crafted romance questlines. While the game does not currently allow for traditional dating with romance options, the existing romance system remains a highlight of the game and well worth the $13.99 price on Steam.

With the first major update in November 2024, *Fields of Mistria* increased the heart level cap from four to six and introduced a new heart event for each romanceable NPC, marking significant relationship milestones. These events are unlocked at two, four, and six hearts, with playable cutscenes that enrich the player's experience. NPC Studio has plans to add eight- and ten-heart events in future updates, though specific dates beyond the March 2025 update remain unannounced. The upcoming update will not include an increased heart level cap or new heart events.

While the lack of further romance development might disappoint new players, the current romance system in *Fields of Mistria* is exceptional. The game's dialogue is rich and realistic, with flirtatious undertones that enhance the romantic interactions. The heart events, though potentially platonic at early stages, are crafted with enough ambiguity to allow for romantic interpretations, fostering a deep and rewarding romantic progression.

New players should not be deterred by the absence of traditional dating. The latest major update introduced the Shooting Star Festival, a summer event where players can initiate a date-like experience with NPCs at four hearts. This event allows you to spend an evening watching stars with eligible NPCs, including Caldarus, though his interaction does not currently trigger a date at the Summit location like others. This feature might evolve with the game's March 2025 update, which will unlock Caldarus's romance questline.

Although you cannot officially date NPCs in *Fields of Mistria* yet, the game offers plenty of engaging content to keep players satisfied until this feature is fully implemented.
