Should You Fight Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins?

Engaging Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a daunting endeavor. In my experience, it took over an hour to overcome this formidable foe. However, there are compelling reasons to take him on.

Firstly, the prestige of defeating Lu Bu is unparalleled; it's a true badge of honor. Secondly, depending on your allegiance with Shu or Wei, you might not have a choice but to face him during the Battle of Xiapi in Chapter 4. Lastly, triumphing over him at the Battle of Hulao Gate not only earns you the "The Strongest" trophy but also unlocks the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd, in the post-game scenario.

Lu Bu’s First Phase

Preparation is key before clashing with Lu Bu. Equip a weapon like a sword that can deliver multiple hits and stagger him. Opt for Battle Arts that activate quickly, require minimal Bravery, and have a broad range. During my encounter, I used Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Additionally, accessories that boost your health and defense, such as Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell, are essential due to Lu Bu's devastating attacks. A weapon with a skill that grants Bravery for each Perfect Evade will also prove invaluable.

In the initial phase, Lu Bu rides his famed horse, Red Hare. He swiftly charges around the battlefield but occasionally pauses to rest. Seize these moments to strike with your Battle Arts before retreating. His attacks, while fast, have limited AOE, except for Red Hare's aerial slam. Once his health drops to 80%, Lu Bu dismounts, and the real battle commences.

Lu Bu’s Second Phase

On foot, Lu Bu becomes even more ferocious. His swift attacks and rapid movement across the arena are marked by a red aura, indicating he cannot be staggered. Be vigilant for his charging sequences, which always come in sets of three. If he charges without his spear, he's attempting a grab that can severely deplete your health—evade it promptly.

His most lethal move is signaled by an orange glow, leading to a barrage of three massive arrows fired thrice, capable of juggling and annihilating your health. Counter this with a long-range Battle Art like Absconding Slash. Close-quarters moves like Palm Strike are suicidal here. Keep your Musou gauge ready for emergencies, granting you brief invincibility to survive missteps.

Lu Bu is surprisingly susceptible to juggling in this phase. Continuous attacks will quickly charge your Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react swiftly to his moves, and remember: evasion is your best friend.

Lu Bu’s Final Phase

As Lu Bu's health dwindles, he enters Musou Rage, marking the final phase. Now unstaggered, he unleashes relentless attacks. Your objective is to break his Fortitude before he executes his Musou Attack. Use all your remaining resources—activate Musou attacks, deploy Battle Arts, and strike with everything you've got. If he completes his Musou Attack, he'll immediately restart it, forcing you to repeat the phase. Breaking his Fortitude here is crucial to finally defeating this legendary adversary.
