Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just revealed an exciting lineup for Destiny 2, marking the "Year of Prophecy" with a series of expansions and updates that promise to elevate the gameplay experience for both paying and free players.

The "Year of Prophecy" introduces four major content updates, including two paid expansions and two free major updates, setting the stage for a year filled with fresh content and thrilling adventures.

Kicking off the year, the free update Rite of the Nine is now available, offering a new take on dungeon diving that appeals to both veterans and newcomers. This update revisits the dungeons of Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep with unique twists, new challenges, and reimagined weapons, all while reintroducing players to the enigmatic character Orin.

On July 15, the first paid expansion, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, launches, marking the beginning of a multiyear saga. This expansion reintroduces the mysterious Nine and introduces new characters Lodi and Ikora, who take center stage. Set on the new destination Kepler, players can expect puzzle-solving, pathfinding challenges, and deep exploration, alongside new enemies, weapons, and gear, as well as destination-specific abilities.

Simultaneously on July 15, major core game innovations will be introduced, including revamped armor and gear systems for enhanced buildcrafting opportunities and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This screen allows players to easily choose between various ops, including the new Solo Ops designed for solo players seeking quick, self-contained gameplay sessions. With 50 new modifiers, players can customize their gameplay experience and chase specific rewards through curated activity rotations.

Following The Edge of Fate, the Ash & Iron update will launch on September 9, with the second expansion, Renegades, scheduled for December 2. The year will conclude with the Shadow & Order update on March 3.

Destiny 2: Renegades draws inspiration from the legendary Star Wars universe, blending Destiny's unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements.

This news comes as a much-needed boost for Destiny 2 fans following significant layoffs at Bungie, which saw 220 staff members, or 17% of the workforce, let go in July 2024, less than a year after another 100 layoffs.

While Destiny 2 continues to evolve, Bungie is also working on the highly anticipated reboot of the classic Bungie franchise, Marathon. Revealed in May 2023, the game's alpha state has shown promising signs of fulfilling the Bungie PvP experience, with a full release planned for September on PC and consoles.
