On the third day of this year's Anime Expo in Los Angeles, California, Ryu Ga Gotoku (RGG) Studio hosted the Essence of Fandom: Like a Dragon & Yakuza Experience. The event, moderated by Linda "VampyBitMe" Le, featured Like a Dragon Chief Producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto and the voice actor of Ichiban Kasuga, Kazuhiro Nakaya.

During the event, studio representatives teased fans with details about their upcoming game, hinting, "We can’t tell you what kind of game it is, but I will tell you, you’ll be surprised." This statement was captured and shared by user @TheYakuzaGuy on Twitter, who also confirmed that the new game will be a fresh entry in the Like a Dragon series.

Given that the seventh mainline game in the series transitioned from an action beat 'em up to a full-on JRPG, this new "surprising" entry could potentially take the series in yet another unexpected direction. Speculations range from a rhythm game centered around the series' beloved karaoke mini-game, to a spin-off featuring other characters, or even a remake or sequel to previous spin-offs like Yakuza: Dead Souls or the Japan-exclusive Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan.
