Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature previously found in FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign's approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions leave insufficient time for players to leave or read messages.

Ishizaki stated, "With sessions lasting roughly forty minutes, there isn't enough time to send your own messages or read other people's messages, therefore we disabled the messaging feature."

This change is notable, as player messaging has been a significant element of FromSoftware's games, enhancing player interaction and enjoyment. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.

To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign offers a separate adventure. While retaining the atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world, it presents unique challenges and encounters.
