Over 3,000 Skill Line Combinations

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) brings exciting changes, as announced at the ESO Direct 2025 on April 10. ZeniMax Online Studios revealed that the long-requested subclass feature will soon launch, allowing greater character customization.

For years, players have wanted the ability to switch classes without starting anew. Previously, new skill trees required creating fresh characters, a hurdle for MMO players. Subclasses now let players blend skill lines from different classes without restarting.

Players must reach level 50 to access subclasses. They can keep one skill line from their base class and swap two others with any of the six available classes, unlocking over 3,000 combinations for personalized playstyles.

Game Director Rich Lambert expressed confidence in the feature, noting extensive testing ensures balance, even with expected power level increases. The team is satisfied with the results.

Seasons of the Worm Cult

ZeniMax Online is shifting to seasonal content to experiment with new ideas and gameplay. Studio Director Matt Firor explained that this approach allows developers to diversify content and address player feedback more effectively.

He said, "We aim to tell compelling stories while introducing fresh systems and ideas. Seasons let us vary our pace, broaden our focus, and deliver more variety to players."

The new chapter, Seasons of the Worm Cult, continues the Molag Bal storyline from a decade ago. Players will explore the Isle of Solstice, a new zone, to confront the resurgent Worm Cult.

Producer Susan Kath noted that while Seasons of the Worm Cult spans most of 2025, future seasons will last three to six months. ZeniMax plans "remix" seasons revisiting past stories, with a Dark Brotherhood-themed season in development.

2025 Content Pass and Premium Edition

On April 11, ESO announced via Twitter (X) a new content pass and premium edition, bundling all past and upcoming content. The pass includes:

With its 10th anniversary, ESO continues to build on its legacy and community. Revisiting past stories will tie up loose ends and enrich the game’s lore. The Elder Scrolls Online is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
