Fantasma: A New AR Multiplayer GPS Adventure Game
Pocket Gamer recently discovered Dynabytes' Fantasma at Gamescom Latam, a compelling augmented reality (AR) multiplayer GPS adventure game. The game's recent update includes several new language options: Japanese, Korean, Malay, and Portuguese. Further expansion is planned, with German, Italian, and Spanish support slated for release in the coming months.
The core gameplay revolves around tracking and battling Fantasma, mischievous creatures plaguing the world. Players deploy portable electromagnetic fields (acting as bait) to lure these paranormal entities. Combat takes place in AR, requiring players to maneuver their phones to keep the Fantasma in view and tap the screen to fire projectiles. Defeated Fantasma are then captured in special bottles.
Fantasma encounters are location-based, encouraging exploration to discover new creatures. Players can also deploy sensors to expand their detection radius and attract Fantasma from greater distances. A social element is incorporated through team play, allowing players to cooperate in hunts.
