First Trailer for The Fantastic Four Reveals the Silver Surfer
Marvel Studios has unveiled a new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, featuring a substantial amount of never-before-seen footage.
The preview showcases The Thing sporting a rocky beard as the Human Torch carries him through the sky. We also catch glimpses of Mister Fantastic stretching his abilities, the Invisible Woman utilizing a broader range of her powers, and a slightly clearer, though still elusive, look at Galactus.
The trailer offers a more extensive look at the Silver Surfer than previous reveals, featuring her metallic voice announcing the arrival of Galactus. A recurring gag involves The Thing pointedly refusing to utter his iconic catchphrase, "It's clobberin' time!"
The appearance of The Thing's beard in the film is particularly intriguing, as prior marketing material showed him clean-shaven. This suggests the facial growth emerges later in the story, likely during the third act. This raises several questions: Why wouldn't Ben Grimm shave? Over what timeframe does the movie's narrative unfold? Is there a significant time jump involved? Furthermore, can The Thing even shave, and if so, how? The rocky beard has certainly sparked curiosity.
Fans have already theorized that The Fantastic Four spans several months, not days, especially given scenes showing Sue Storm both before and after the birth of her son, Franklin Richards.
While the trailer is packed with new shots, Marvel Studios is evidently keeping plenty under wraps. Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards, whose mustache has itself been a topic of fan debate, is seen stretching his arm and leg to leap onto a platform and again apparently placing an object into Galactus's leg. However, the full scope of his powers remains hidden.
Similarly, Galactus's face has yet to be fully revealed in live-action, though we've seen conceptual glimpses. The trailer does show his chest as he appears to awaken, alongside shots of him stomping through an alternate-history version of New York City.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is poised to launch Phase Six of the MCU, introducing Marvel's First Family and setting the stage for their eventual encounters with characters like Captain America, Thor, and the X-Men in next year's Avengers: Doomsday. Earlier this month, director Matt Shakman addressed the major question of Robert Downey Jr.'s rumored appearance as Doctor Doom, seemingly confirming the character will not feature in the film. However, Shakman's somewhat ambiguous phrasing left some fans skeptical. What is clear is that the events of The Fantastic Four: First Steps will lead directly into Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in December 2026.
