A Fragile Mind: Puzzler Challenges Minds

This week, we put our App Army's puzzling prowess to the test with A Fragile Mind, the latest puzzle adventure from developer Glitch Games. This game blends the classic escape room genre with a dash of humor, aiming to offer players an engaging and light-hearted experience. We handed the game over to our App Army readers to see what they thought, and the feedback was mixed. Some praised the challenging puzzles and humor, while others felt the game's presentation was lacking.

Here's what our App Army had to say:

Swapnil Jadhav

At first glance, the game's icon seemed unappealing and suggested a potentially dull experience. However, A Fragile Mind surprised me with its unique gameplay, making for a refreshing puzzle adventure. The puzzles are tough yet engaging, ranking this game among the best in its category. I recommend playing it on an iPad or tablet for the best experience, but I won't spoil too much!

This is a point-and-click puzzle-solving adventure featuring static pre-rendered graphics. The narrative, if there is one, remains elusive to me. Each chapter presents a new floor in a building, and you must solve increasingly complex puzzles to advance. Interestingly, you can move to the next floor without solving all the current puzzles, as some require items from higher floors. The game cleverly breaks the fourth wall, such as when inspecting an item and being told its graphic isn't detailed enough to be significant. I appreciated the hints, though they could be spaced out more; you can rapidly cycle through them, and they automatically adjust to guide you on the next step. I made it to the third floor before relying heavily on hints.

The puzzles seem obvious once solved, never feeling too obscure or random. Glitch Games clearly has a seasoned hand in this genre. The only downside was the occasionally confusing navigation, especially when moving between rooms and corridors. Despite this minor issue, A Fragile Mind is a solid example of the genre, and I'm eager to continue playing.

A Fragile Mind is a first-person puzzle adventure where you awaken in a garden within a building, amnesiac and confused. As you explore, you must take photos, discover objects, and solve puzzles to progress. While the graphics and sounds are adequate, the puzzles are challenging, occasionally requiring a walkthrough. The game is relatively short and lacks replay value once completed. Still, if you enjoy puzzle adventures, it's definitely worth playing.

Escape-the-room puzzles have always been a favorite on mobile devices. A Fragile Mind, unfortunately, falls on the lower end of the quality spectrum. The presentation feels muddy, making it difficult to distinguish puzzle pieces and the puzzles themselves. Additionally, the UI design, with the menu button positioned awkwardly in the top left corner, can lead to accidental taps, which hampers the gaming experience. The game's pacing is off, with too many puzzles accessible from the start, leaving players feeling lost and overly reliant on the hint system just to navigate.

Typically, I shy away from puzzle games due to their difficulty and often unrewarding payoff. However, A Fragile Mind pleasantly surprised me. It offers numerous audio and visual options, creating a pleasant aesthetic and atmosphere. The puzzles and clues are intriguing, and the hint system is particularly helpful, guiding players through challenges without revealing too much. Overall, it's a solid experience for its price, though somewhat short. I recommend it!

Imagine waking up in your car, disoriented, in front of an abandoned circus at night. A note on the passenger seat says, "It's in the trunk!" You grab the pin, exit the car, and find a feather and a razor blade in the trunk. As you approach the circus entrance, a giant elephant confronts you, and you realize elephants have trunks too. This scenario captures the essence of playing A Fragile Mind. The game layers puzzles upon puzzles, requiring you to navigate multiple clues per room to advance the story. Taking in-game photos and physical notes is crucial.

The game runs smoothly on Android (Google Pixel phones) and offers a variety of visual and sound options, enhancing accessibility. Expert puzzle solvers can complete it in about an hour, enjoying humor and puns throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it!
