The game, released in 2022, became a massive success, partly due to Martin's involvement, which was prominently featured in promotional efforts and credited at the game's outset alongside FromSoftware chief Hidetaka Miyazaki.

When asked about a potential sequel to Elden Ring, Martin cleverly sidestepped the topic but dropped a tantalizing hint about a movie adaptation. He stated, "Well, I can't say too much about it, but there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring." This isn't the first time he's hinted at such a project, aligning with previous comments from FromSoftware's president Hidetaka Miyazaki, who expressed openness to an adaptation provided it's handled by a "very strong partner."

Miyazaki, in an interview with The Guardian, elaborated on the potential for an Elden Ring movie, acknowledging the limitations of FromSoftware in producing content in different mediums. Martin admitted to being "a few years behind" on his latest book, which he said limits his ability to take on other projects. The wait for The Winds of Winter has been fraught with delays, stretching over a decade since the release of A Dance With Dragons in 2011. Martin's candidness about the book's status underscores the challenges he faces in balancing his commitments.

Despite the delays, Martin remains committed to completing The Winds of Winter, acknowledging the skepticism surrounding its completion but maintaining his vitality and dedication to his craft. His world-building contributions to Elden Ring involved crafting the game's backstory, focusing on events thousands of years before the game's present, which enriched the game's narrative and setting.
