Guardians Pom Klementieff Eyed for DCU Role

James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for frequently casting his friends in his films. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has confirmed discussions with Gunn about a role in the upcoming DC Universe.

The DC Universe aims to launch a successful shared cinematic universe, learning from the missteps of the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU). While the DCEU had some box office successes, it suffered from inconsistencies and studio interference. Gunn, known for his Guardians of the Galaxy films, hopes to steer the DCU towards greater cohesion and success, potentially bringing familiar faces along.

Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, recently confirmed conversations with Gunn about a specific DC role during San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con. While she remained tight-lipped about details, she emphasized that Gunn has a particular character in mind.

I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. \[...\] Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.

Klementieff also shared her positive experience working with Gunn on the *Guardians of the Galaxy* films, expressing gratitude for the opportunity. With *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3* concluding with a shift in the team's lineup, she remains open to reprising her role as Mantis in future projects.

I'm always open to it, I love the character. I'm sure the fans would love to see it, but I don't know. It depends on the project.

Gunn himself later corroborated Klementieff's statements on Threads, clarifying that the role is not in his upcoming Superman film and that they've discussed a different, specific character. However, the identity of this character remains undisclosed.

Gunn's practice of casting familiar faces, including his brother and wife, has drawn criticism from some. However, others argue that this is a common practice among filmmakers. Ultimately, whether Klementieff's casting is successful will depend on her performance.
