Rumors are swirling that Season 5 of MultiVersus could be the game's final curtain call. According to AusilMV, a well-known insider in the gaming community known for accurate leaks, Season 5 is being viewed as a last-ditch effort to save the game. While these are just rumors at this point, the situation appears concerning.

When MultiVersus launched in 2022, it enjoyed explosive success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game's online presence plummeted by 99% shortly after, prompting Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a return in May 2024 with updates, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

Set to kick off in early February, Season 5 represents a critical opportunity for the developers to reignite player interest. This season marks a relaunch of sorts, though the developers have chosen to classify the original 2022 release as a "beta." The initial release was warmly received by players, but the announcement in March 2023 of a temporary shutdown in June that year left many, especially those who purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling let down.
