Insomniac Games, the creative force behind the beloved Ratchet and Clank series, is exploring the exciting realm of game-to-screen adaptations. In a recent interview with Variety, co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider expressed enthusiasm about turning more of their iconic games into films, following the footsteps of their 2016 Ratchet and Clank movie. "We got an early start on the Ratchet and Clank film, and of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular," Schneider remarked.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, the 2016 Ratchet and Clank film marked a significant step for Insomniac. With their acquisition by Sony in 2019, the studio now feels confident in their ability to leverage Sony's successful track record in game-to-screen adaptations, highlighted by the critically acclaimed The Last of Us series.

Sony’s Video Game Adaptations Lineup

Sony has demonstrated its prowess in bringing video games to life on screen. Notable successes include the 2022 Uncharted film and the 2023 The Last of Us TV series. The momentum continues with several upcoming projects announced at CES 2025, including:

• The Last of Us Season 2 set to premiere on HBO in April 2025.
• An Until Dawn live-action film also slated for April 2025.
• Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series, which will debut on Crunchyroll in 2027.
• Feature films for Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn are in development, though release dates remain undisclosed.

Insomniac Founder and CEO Ted Price Retires After 30 Years

In a significant transition for the studio, Insomniac's founder and CEO, Ted Price, announced his retirement after a remarkable 30-year tenure. Price, who has been instrumental in creating classics like "Spyro the Dragon," "Ratchet & Clank," and "Marvel’s Spider-Man," stated, "I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team."

Leadership of the studio will now be shared by three Insomniac veterans: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as co-Studio Heads. Price emphasized the importance of this transition, saying, "I believe strongly that for us to continue our success, we need leaders at the top who are intimately familiar with how we do things, leaders who have helped build our culture and our processes, and who have earned people’s trust."
