DC Studios head James Gunn is setting the record straight: despite online speculation, the planned Waller TV series is actively moving forward.

The longtime producer recently addressed the rumors directly on Threads. When a fan asked if reports of the show being retooled into a Checkmate project were false, Gunn responded with a simple "yes."

Another fan sought further clarity, asking, "So Waller is still in development?" Gunn again confirmed with another "yes."

This firm confirmation is welcome news, especially after Gunn acknowledged earlier this year that the project had faced some behind-the-scenes challenges. "Frankly, Waller has experienced a couple of setbacks," Gunn stated at a DC Studios press event alongside co-head Peter Safran in February.

Specific details about the series remain scarce. It was first announced in January 2023 as part of the new DCU slate, conceived as a Peacemaker spinoff. The story was set to explore the aftermath of Amanda Waller's daughter, Leota Adebayo, exposing the existence of Task Force X. However, the 2023 industry strikes and subsequent timeline adjustments for the new DCU necessitated significant rewrites, which delayed production.

The series is being developed by writers Christal Henry (Watchmen) and Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol). While public information is limited, Gunn's recent confirmation signals positive momentum for the project, with hopes for a release next year.
