The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with different pricing strategies for Japan and the rest of the world, offering enthusiasts a choice between two distinct versions of the console. For those in Japan, the excitement is doubled with a more affordable option tailored specifically for the local market.
Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions
Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will come in two versions: a Japanese-language system exclusive to Japan, and a Multi-Language System available worldwide. The Japanese version is priced at approximately $330, significantly lower than the Multi-Language System's global price of $449.99. This price discrepancy is largely due to the weakened yen against the USD, which impacts the cost of goods for international visitors in Japan.
Residents of Japan have the option to purchase either version, but the Japanese-language system is restricted to those with a Nintendo Account set to Japan. This version supports only Japanese and is limited to software available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop. For gamers looking to enjoy the Switch 2 in multiple languages, Nintendo recommends opting for the Multi-Language System version, with more details to be disclosed on April 4.
Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store
Securing a Nintendo Switch 2 involves entering a lottery on the My Nintendo Store. Starting April 24, retailers and online shops across Japan will also offer reservations or lottery entries, subject to availability. To participate in the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet specific criteria:
- By February 28, 2025, you must have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software, excluding demo and free software.
- At the time of application, you must have a continuous subscription to Nintendo Switch Online for at least one year and remain an active subscriber.
