The highly anticipated sequel, *Mortal Kombat 2*, has unveiled exciting new additions to its roster of characters, offering fans a thrilling glimpse into the upcoming movie. Entertainment Weekly showcased exclusive images of Karl Urban as the charismatic Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as the formidable Shao Kahn, and Adeline Rudolph embodying the elegant Kitana. Returning to the fray is Hiroyuki Sanada reprising his role as the iconic Scorpion.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting how Karl Urban, known for his portrayal of Billy Butcher in *The Boys*, would bring to life the egocentric Hollywood star Johnny Cage. A promotional image featured Urban in a quintessential martial arts stance, complete with Cage's signature hair and sunglasses. In the background, we catch a glimpse of familiar faces: Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, and Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade.

Entertainment Weekly also included a quote from NetherRealm's Ed Boon discussing Johnny Cage's pivotal role in the sequel. "His integration into the Mortal Kombat story and universe is a big part of what this movie explores," Boon stated. He highlighted Urban's unique take on the character, saying, "Karl's depiction of Johnny Cage is different than our games in some ways. He's adding his own flair to it, but I think it'll feel fresh. There's like a novelty factor in there."

Boon teased a "ridiculously hilarious" introduction for Johnny Cage, while director Simon McQuoid elaborated on the character's depth, saying, "We wanted a character that wasn't just completely silly, comic book… It's a character that could instantly go there and become too light and throwaway if we were to lean too much into the kind of cheese. The casting of Karl Urban for that role allowed that character to have more depth."

In an exciting announcement, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that movie-accurate skins for Urban's Johnny Cage, Rudolph's Kitana, and Ford's Shao Kahn will be available in *Mortal Kombat 1* later this year.

Adding to the excitement, Damon Herriman from *Better Man* steps into the role of Quan Chi, while Josh Lawson and Max Huang make a surprising return as Kano and Kung Lao, respectively. These characters, who met their demise in the first film, are brought back to life thanks to the flexible lore of the *Mortal Kombat* video games. "So we deal with spirits and the NetherRealm and things like that," Boon explained. "There are ways to bring dead characters back."

Completing the cast, Tati Gabrielle from *The Last of Us Season 2* plays Jade, and Ana Thu Nguyen from *NCIS: Sydney* portrays Queen Sindel. *Mortal Kombat 2* is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, promising an explosive continuation of the saga.
