铁拳系列总监原田胜弘在最近的一次采访中表示，尽管他多年来一直梦想着让肯德基创始人兼品牌吉祥物上校桑德斯出现在铁拳格斗游戏中，但肯德基公司和他的上司都拒绝了他的请求。“很久以前，我就想让肯德基的上校桑德斯参战，”原田胜弘告诉《The Gamer》。“所以我请求使用上校桑德斯的形象，并联系了日本总部。”
这并非原田胜弘第一次谈到想让上校桑德斯出现在铁拳系列中。他之前曾在YouTube频道的一个旧视频中表示，他非常想让肯德基的标志性人物作为客串角色加入铁拳。原田胜弘还透露，当他的铁拳x上校桑德斯梦想被否决时，他受到了“严厉的斥责”。因此，粉丝们在短期内不应该期待在铁拳8中看到任何肯德基的联动内容。
游戏设计师Michael Murray在接受《The Gamer》采访时，进一步详细介绍了原田胜弘与肯德基之间的沟通。显然，原田胜弘曾亲自联系肯德基，试图获得上校桑德斯的授权，但“他们对这个想法并不太开放，”Murray说。“[上校桑德斯]之后确实出现在了一些游戏中。所以也许只是他与某个角色对战[这一点]对他们来说是个问题。但这足以说明这类讨论有多么困难。”
在之前的采访中，原田胜弘曾表示，如果他能完全自由地进行创作，他“梦想着”在铁拳中加入上校桑德斯。“老实说，我梦想着肯德基的上校桑德斯出现在铁拳中。我和池田导演一起为此角色制定了一个方案，”原田胜弘说。“我们知道如何把它做得很好。这将非常精彩。”然而，肯德基的市场部门似乎并不像铁拳总监那样热衷于这样的联动。“然而，市场部门不愿意同意，因为他们认为玩家不会喜欢它。”原田胜弘补充道，“每个人都在处处劝我们不要这样做。所以如果肯德基的任何人读到这篇采访，请与我联系！”
