The star-studded cast of Death Stranding 2 continues to grow with the official inclusion of Usada Pekora from Hololive. Kojima Productions confirmed via a May 29 post on X (formerly Twitter) that Pekora will feature as a Prepper—an isolated NPC found within the game's vast world.

Usada Pekora is a well-known Japanese VTuber represented by Hololive Production and a key member of the third-generation group "hololive fantasy." She is currently among the platform's most-subscribed VTubers, boasting an audience of over 2.7 million subscribers.

Alongside the reveal, Kojima Productions shared a brief clip where Pekora welcomes the player upon exiting a Prepper Shelter—a secure, bunker-style structure. While the exact nature of her role remains under wraps, the announcement playfully teased fans, stating, "What kind of Prepper could she be…? Find out after the game launches!"

This collaboration did not happen overnight. Pekora previously visited Kojima Productions' studio last year, and Hideo Kojima himself marked the occasion by sharing a photo alongside the VTuber. In the shot—posted last August—they are seen giving a thumbs-up next to the studio’s famed Ludens statue.

Pekora later expressed her gratitude in a tweet, thanking the team for a memorable visit. While fans were initially puzzled by the meeting, many are now thrilled to see her included in the game. Kojima is known to be a fan, often posting about watching Pekora’s livestreams. This partnership also opens doors for Kojima Productions to connect with Hololive’s vast global community and expand the reach of their anticipated new title.

Additional Celebrity Cameos Are on the Way

More celebrity appearances are expected in Death Stranding 2, as mentioned by Hideo Kojima during the most recent KojiPro podcast. He revealed that although many people were scanned for potential inclusion, roughly half had to be cut due to storage limitations.

As translated by Genki Gamer, Kojima stated that the majority of these individuals were intended as Preppers, while others were meant to portray more influential roles. Several also completed voice recordings. While the full guest cast has yet to be announced, eager fans will have to wait until launch to uncover all the surprises.

Incorporating celebrity cameos is nothing new for the Death Stranding universe. The original title featured personalities like Conan O’Brien as "The Wandering MC," acclaimed horror manga artist Junji Ito as "The Engineer," and video game journalist Geoff Keighley as "The Ludens Fan," among many others.
