Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will helm this new chapter, penning the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This sequel has been in development for some time, with director Scott Derrickson previously attached. However, with no progress since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted for Eggers' vision.

The original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped baby brother, aided by a cast of Henson puppets.

Eggers' involvement extends beyond Labyrinth. He's also directing a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English.

Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film. The 19th-century German-set story centers on a real estate agent whose trip to Transylvania to broker a deal with a mysterious count unleashes vampiric terrors upon him and his wife.

Nosferatu garnered four Oscar nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. A review of Nosferatu is available here.
