Larian Studios announced on a Steam post that a stress test for Patch 8 will begin in January. This test will be available on PC via Steam, and on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Mac and GOG users will not have access to this test build. Registration for the stress test is currently open.

Larian plans to thoroughly test Patch 8 for bugs and gameplay issues before its official release. They're inviting players to participate, stating, "With your help, we’ll be able to keep an eye on any funny business." A key focus of the stress test is cross-platform play. Larian acknowledged the complexity of implementing crossplay in a game as large as Baldur's Gate 3 and seeks player assistance in evaluating this new feature. They encourage players to share the registration link and join forces with friends or find groups on the Larian Studios Discord server.

While Patch 8 represents the final major update for Baldur's Gate 3, Larian reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the game's modding community. Significant updates are planned to enhance modding capabilities, enabling players to create and share their own stories. Since the release of the official mod tools in September, players have downloaded over 70 million modules and uploaded over 3,000 mods.
