Universal Pictures has unveiled the first look at Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, featuring Hollywood star Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus.

Following the monumental success of the 2023 biopic Oppenheimer, Nolan's The Odyssey reimagines the Ancient Greek epic poem, originally composed in the 8th or 7th century BC. The film is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026.

Christopher Nolan’s next film, ‘The Odyssey,’ is a mythic action epic filmed globally with groundbreaking IMAX film technology. For the first time, Homer’s foundational saga comes to IMAX screens, premiering in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

The Odyssey chronicles the ten-year journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he strives to return home after the Trojan War. Although Universal has not disclosed additional specifics about Nolan's adaptation, industry reports are already highlighting the film's star-studded ensemble.

Matt Damon was initially reported to be in discussions for a leading role in Nolan's project, marking his return to Universal after 2023's Oppenheimer, which earned seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Alongside Damon, sources indicate that the cast may include Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson.
