Minecraft Live 2025 Reveals Vivid Look and Flying Ghast
The excitement of Minecraft Live 2025 has settled, and developer Mojang has unveiled an extensive lineup of new upgrades and content headed to the all-time best-selling video game.
Mojang introduced the year's first game drop, titled "Spring to Life." This update brings a range of enhancements to the Overworld, designed to make biomes "feel more immersive and alive." Expect new variants for cows, pigs, and chickens, along with fresh ambient details like the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and whispers of sand. "Spring to Life" arrives on March 25.
While the second game drop for the year remains unnamed, its features are confirmed. A new block, the Dried Ghast, can be rehydrated to create a new mob variant called the Ghastling—essentially a baby ghast. This Ghastling can later evolve into another new variant, the Happy Ghast. Using a Ghast harness, players can fly a Happy Ghast, which accommodates up to four players.
The day's headline announcement was 'Vibrant Visuals,' a major visual enhancement for Minecraft. Mojang described it as "the first step in expressing our developers’ vision for a visual upgrade that will transform the way our players experience Minecraft." It’s important to note that Vibrant Visuals has no effect on Minecraft gameplay.

In other news, Mojang shared a fresh clip for the upcoming A Minecraft Movie and revealed a movie-themed in-game live event starting March 25.
From our visit to Mojang's Swedish offices, we've gathered additional insights—including the reasons the developer won't create Minecraft 2, won't shift to a free-to-play model, and won't use generative AI in the game's development.
Minecraft Live 2025 — All Announcements:
Mojang Studios detailed the name, launch date, and features for the first game drop of the year, along with a preview of what's coming in the second drop. The first drop, "Spring to Life," enriches the Overworld to make biomes feel more immersive and vibrant. It adds warm and cold variants of classic Minecraft mobs, introduces new ambient elements such as the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and whispers of sand, and gives players more reasons to explore. The second drop features the new Dried Ghast block, the Ghastling and Happy Ghast mob variants, and the Ghast harness. The Dried Ghast block is slightly smaller than a regular block, featuring cute tentacles and a grumpy expression. When you bring a Dried Ghast from the Nether and place it in water, it slowly transforms into the much cheerier Ghastling. The Ghastling drifts through the Overworld like a tiny balloon. Feed it snowballs, and it eventually matures into a flying Happy Ghast. After crafting a harness for the Happy Ghast, lure it closer with the harness itself and hop on. You and up to three friends can then fly together on a single Happy Ghast. The new Locator Bar, positioned at the bottom of the screen, shows the direction your friends are in—handy for locating them while soaring on a Happy Ghast. Mojang noted that the Happy Ghast will be a boon for Survival Mode builders, as "it's a bit like being in Creative Mode, but in Survival." The platform allows you to position yourself anywhere in the sky and dismount easily. Mojang Studios also announced a visual upgrade named Vibrant Visuals. Additionally, they premiered an exclusive clip from A Minecraft Movie and announced an in-game, movie-themed live event. Set in Midport Village, this live event lets players join Steve and his movie companions in a dynamic multiplayer experience defending the village from a piglin attack across three mini-games. The event runs from March 25 to April 7, and completing all challenges rewards players with the Yearn cape.
