Nintendo Sets Switch 2 Direct for June
Nintendo has officially confirmed that the upcoming Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct presentation will run for approximately one hour.
This extended duration is notable for a Nintendo Direct, indicating that Nintendo has a substantial amount of content to cover in this highly anticipated showcase.
The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, 2025, beginning at 6 a.m. PDT / 9 a.m. EDT / 2 p.m. BST. Nintendo stated that this broadcast will provide a closer look at the Switch 2, following the console's initial brief reveal earlier this year.
That first glimpse showcased the Switch 2's form factor, a possible look at a new Mario Kart installment, and hinted at a potential mouse-like function for the new Joy-Con controllers.
However, several key details about the Switch 2 remain unanswered, including the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con 'C' button, the console's processing power, and the purpose of its new ports.
Fans are also hoping the Direct will reveal the Switch 2's full launch game lineup, a concrete release date (widely expected for sometime between June and September 2025), and the official price. Analysts have predicted a launch price point of around $400.
A clearer picture of the Switch 2's game library is beginning to emerge. A lengthy list of third-party titles is rumored to be in development for the console. In an interview, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis described the Joy-Con's apparent mouse mode as "definitely intriguing." Additionally, publisher Nacon, known for games like Greedfall 2 and Test Drive Unlimited, has stated it has Switch 2 games ready. The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be targeting a Switch 2 release, and EA has expressed that franchises like Madden, FC (formerly FIFA), and The Sims would be excellent fits for the platform.
Last week's announcement of a new Virtual Game Cards feature for sharing games also sparked discussion about the Switch 2, fueled by a footnote on an official Nintendo webpage.
In related news, Nintendo has scheduled a Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation focused on the Switch 2 for April 3 and 4, featuring hands-on gameplay demonstrations starting at 7 a.m. PT each day.
