In statements to CNET Japan and the Sankei newspaper, Nintendo clarified that the 3D-printed mockup presented by Genki at CES 2025 is unofficial. This directly contradicts Genki's claims of possessing a functional Switch 2 unit and possessing knowledge of its release date.
Genki, an American manufacturer of electronics and video game console accessories (including controllers, portable SSDs, and chargers), generated significant buzz at CES 2025 by showcasing the alleged Switch 2 mockup. Their website even features a dedicated page for upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, complete with a detailed animated model of the console.
Despite Genki's claims, Nintendo has remained tight-lipped about the Switch 2's specifics, only confirming backwards compatibility with the original Switch and its games. This discrepancy has led to speculation that Nintendo may soon feel compelled to make an official announcement regarding their next-generation console.
