The Switch 2's existence has been an open secret for some time. Reports suggest mass production commenced around September or October 2024, a claim supported by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025. NateTheHate, a reputable leaker, corroborated the January 16th date, a claim independently verified by Tom Warren of The Verge. Thursdays have historically been favored for major Nintendo announcements.

Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement

While a pre-announcement teaser on social media, similar to the original Switch's rollout, remains a possibility, the sheer volume of leaked information about the Switch 2 makes a surprise reveal unlikely.
