Nintendo Switch 2 Livestream Faces Backlash Over High Prices
Nintendo’s debut Nintendo Direct Treehouse livestream for the Switch 2 is being inundated with frustrated comments from fans demanding the company "lower the price."
A quick look at the YouTube chat during the stream reveals a wave of criticism about the pricing of Nintendo’s next-generation console, set at $449.99 for the Switch 2, with the $79.99 price tag for Mario Kart World sparking particular outrage.
While the Nintendo Switch 2 system itself will retail for $449.99, a bundle including Mario Kart World is priced at $499.99, offering a $30 savings on the game.
However, Mario Kart World isn’t the only Switch 2 title priced at $79.99. Other Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games, like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, also carry the same $79.99 price.
Nintendo has faced criticism for charging for the Switch 2’s tutorial game, Welcome Tour, which fans argue should be a free inclusion. For comparison, Astro's Playroom is pre-installed on every PlayStation 5, doubling as a free tech demo for the DualSense controller.
