Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart recently provided a positive update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2, assuring fans that progress is strong despite past challenges. This follows news regarding their other highly anticipated title, Avowed.

Urquhart candidly addressed the difficulties faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and post-Microsoft acquisition. Simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, significantly strained resources. He acknowledged a period of intense pressure, even mentioning that halting The Outer Worlds 2 to focus on Avowed was considered. However, Obsidian persevered, ultimately continuing development across all projects.

"We got acquired, then Covid hit, and we were juggling Outer Worlds, its DLC, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Grounded, and Pentiment," Urquhart recalled.

Despite the hurdles, Urquhart highlighted the successful launches of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed great enthusiasm for both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific gameplay details remain undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential timeline adjustments for other projects.

Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates. Urquhart acknowledged this and the possibility of a launch date shift, mirroring the situation with Avowed. However, he reaffirmed Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality games, stating, "We will get there...are they going to be on the timelines we originally thought? No. But we’re going to get there." Both titles are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
