Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for a significant crossplay update scheduled for late March 2025. In a recent post on X/Twitter, the studio announced that this update will bring multiplayer capabilities across all platforms and introduce a world transfer feature for Pals. While specifics remain under wraps, a promotional image shared by Pocketpair showcased various Palworld characters engaged in battle with a colossal Pal.

John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" to be included in the March update. This news is particularly exciting for the 32 million players who have engaged with Palworld since its early access debut in January 2024. Pocketpair has outlined an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, which, in addition to crossplay, includes an "ending scenario" and other new content for the widely popular creature-catching survival game.

Palworld hit the market on Steam with a $30 price tag and was simultaneously released on Xbox and PC via Game Pass, shattering sales records and achieving unprecedented concurrent player numbers. The overwhelming success of the launch led Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe to admit that the studio was initially overwhelmed by the massive profits generated. Responding proactively, Pocketpair swiftly formed a deal with Sony, establishing Palworld Entertainment, a new venture aimed at expanding the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.

However, overshadowing these developments is a legal battle with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The two giants are pursuing "an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages," claiming that Palworld has violated "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to the Pal summoning mechanics in the game. The studio remains steadfast, vowing to defend its position in court and stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
