Krafton is partnering with Pocket Pair to bring Palworld to mobile devices. Known for their work on PUBG, Krafton is now venturing into the monster-taming universe of Palworld.

The mobile adaptation will be developed by PUBG Studios, a Krafton subsidiary, adapting Palworld's core gameplay for smartphones. This licensing agreement will expand the Palworld intellectual property.

But Many Questions Remain Unanswered

The developers are keeping specific details about the mobile version under wraps for now. Palworld launched on Xbox and Steam in January 2024, quickly becoming a breakout success. The game recently expanded to PlayStation 5 (excluding Japan).

The Japanese PS5 release may have been delayed due to Nintendo's ongoing legal proceedings regarding alleged patent infringements. Many players have noted similarities between Palworld and Pokémon, with some even dubbing it "Pokémon with guns."

Nintendo alleges Pocket Pair violated patents related to creature-capturing mechanics similar to Pokémon's Pokéball system. However, Pocket Pair maintains they're unaware of any specific patent violations.

Krafton's Strategic Role in the Project

Developing a mobile version presents challenges for Pocket Pair as they continue working on the base game. Enlisting Krafton's mobile development expertise appears to be a smart strategic move. However, the project likely remains in early development stages.
