Paradox Hints at New Grand Strategy Game, Fans Speculate

May 04,25(6 months ago)

Stellaris and Crusader Kings 3 developer Paradox Interactive is gearing up to unveil an "ambitious" new project next week. While specific details remain under wraps, Paradox reminded fans of their 25-year legacy in creating strategy games that span from the Roman Empire to the stars. They hinted at an upcoming announcement for their next major title in the genre.

The mysterious game, known only by its codename "Caesar," has been the subject of several "Tinto Talks" developer diaries on the studio's forums. These discussions have welcomed community feedback on feature ideas, key game systems, and historical research. Now, Paradox is ready to introduce Caesar to the world.

The latest Tinto Talks, named after the Barcelona-based Studio Tinto developing the game, delved into the mechanics of Protestant religions and the "final situation involving all Western Christian confessions, the War of Religions." This was part of their "entirely super-top-secret game with the codename Project Caesar."

Hints suggest that the mysterious project might be a new addition to the Europa Universalis series, especially since the announcement video is set to premiere on the official Europa Universalis YouTube channel. Although nothing is confirmed, fans are speculating heavily, with many believing it could be connected to Europa Universalis.

"Dev Diaries haven't called it EU5 but everything we have been teased thus far heavily implies it," reminded one player on Reddit. Another, responding to the video's debut on the Europa Universalis channel, teased: "There might've been clues along the way huh." Someone else explained, "I mean, it was an open secret for over a year thanks to the Tinto Talks Threads on Paradox forums."

To uncover the truth behind the rumors, tune into Paradox's video at 9am PDT (12pm EDT, 5pm UK time) on May 8, 2025, and witness "a new era for grand strategy."

IGN's review of the last Europa Universalis game, Europa Universalis 4, awarded it an impressive 8.9/10, praising it for bringing "accessibility and flexibility to the strategy series without compromising its complexity."
