DC Studios' head James Gunn has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on August 21 on Max, accompanied by a brief snippet of new footage. In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the season premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." The teaser shows John Cena's character in action, including a moment where he smirks at the camera against a backdrop of flames, and he's referred to as "a superhero now."

Gunn shared his excitement on X, saying, "Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21."

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the official launch of Gunn's rebooted DCU. It will be the third entry in the new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

This new DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, aims to distance itself from the less successful DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU, with Peacemaker being a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be integrated into the new DCU.

Gunn has mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though the specifics of what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This includes John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has noted that the events of Creature Commandos and Superman will precede and influence the storyline of Peacemaker Season 2, ensuring continuity within the new DCU narrative.
