Pokemon GO to Drop Support for Older Android Devices in 2025

A pair of upcoming updates will render Pokemon GO unplayable on several older mobile devices, starting with some 32-bit Androids as early as March 2025. This change affects primarily older Android phones, specifically those running 32-bit operating systems. Players using affected devices are urged to safeguard their login credentials and upgrade their phones to maintain continuous gameplay.

Launched in July 2016, Pokemon GO, a location-based augmented reality game, boasts a substantial player base, exceeding 110 million active players in December 2024. However, Niantic's optimization efforts to enhance performance on modern devices necessitate the discontinuation of support for older hardware.

On January 9th, Niantic announced that the March and June 2025 updates will end support for certain devices. The initial update will impact select Android devices downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store, followed by a second update targeting 32-bit Android devices obtained via Google Play.
