Pokemon TCG Pocket: Paralyzed, Explained (& All Cards with ‘Paralyze’ Ability)
This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, a digital adaptation of the popular card game. This Special Condition immobilizes an opponent's Active Pokémon for a turn, preventing attacks and retreats. The guide covers how Paralysis works, how to cure it, and strategies for building a deck around it.
What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralysis prevents the opponent's Active Pokémon from attacking or retreating for one turn. The effect automatically ends at the start of the opponent's next Checkup phase.
Paralyzed vs. Asleep
Both Paralysis and Sleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralysis automatically resolves, while Sleep requires a coin flip or specific card effects to cure.
Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical TCG
Unlike the physical card game, Pokémon TCG Pocket lacks Trainer cards like Full Heal to directly remove Paralysis. However, the core mechanic remains consistent: a Paralyzed Pokémon is incapacitated for one turn.
Which Cards Inflict Paralysis?

Currently, only Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno in the Genetic Apex expansion can inflict Paralysis. Each uses a coin flip, making it a somewhat unreliable tactic.
How to Cure Paralysis

Four methods exist to remove Paralysis:
- Automatic Resolution: The effect ends at the start of your next turn.
- Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon removes the condition.
- Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the condition.
- Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers a direct counter, but only under specific conditions (Weezing or Muk).
Building a Paralyze Deck

Paralysis alone is not a strong deck foundation. Combining it with Sleep effects, such as with the Articuno & Frosmoth strategy, creates a more viable approach. This involves using Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex to apply both conditions.
Sample Paralyze/Sleep Deck List
| Card | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Wigglypuff ex | 2 |
| Jigglypuff | 2 |
| Snom | 2 |
| Frosmoth | 2 |
| Articuno | 2 |
| Misty | 2 |
| Sabrina | 2 |
| X Speed | 2 |
| Professor's Research | 2 |
| Poke Ball | 2 |
