Celebrating its ninth anniversary in 2025, Pokémon GO will feature several events leading up to the summer and Pokémon GO Fest. Preceding the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova (February 21st-23rd in Los Angeles and New Taipei City, global event in March), the Lunar New Year event provides a chance to add new Pokémon to your collection.

Niantic promises increased chances of obtaining Lucky Pokémon through trades and becoming Lucky Friends. Wild encounters with Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini will be boosted, including Shiny variants. Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2 km Eggs.

Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research, along with Routes, will reward Stardust, XP, and event Pokémon encounters. Zygarde Cells can be earned through Routes. A $2 Paid Timed Research offers enhanced rewards: two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and encounters with Ekans and Nosepass. Remember to claim all rewards before February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time.

Players can showcase their Lunar New Year Pokémon at PokéStops for additional rewards, including item bundles. A Collection Challenge will grant bonus Stardust for trading, benefiting frequent traders.
