May 22,25(8 months ago)

The Star Wars saga continues to captivate fans with new projects on the horizon, and while we eagerly await Shawn Levy's upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter, there's exciting news for those eager to dive into the universe post-The Rise of Skywalker. A new young adult novel, Star Wars: The Last Order, promises to give us a fresh perspective on the aftermath of the 2019 film. Revealed by publisher Penguin Random House, this novel focuses on the beloved characters Finn and Jannah, portrayed by John Boyega and Naomi Ackie respectively, who were introduced in Rise of Skywalker.

According to the official synopsis, penned by author Kwame Mbalia, the story unfolds as the Resistance rescues a ship full of kidnapped young passengers from the First Order. Finn and Jannah embark on a mission to track down the responsible First Order officer before more children are endangered. This quest forces the two former stormtroopers to confront their own tumultuous pasts within the oppressive regime. This narrative is the first to delve into the Star Wars universe post-Rise of Skywalker, providing fans with an eagerly anticipated continuation of the saga.

Although Star Wars: The Last Order is the first project to explore this timeline, it's not the only one in development. Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy has shared insights about Shawn Levy's standalone Star Wars film, set to take place five to six years after The Rise of Skywalker. In a recent interview with Deadline, Kennedy confirmed the project's placement within the timeline, saying, "It’s all post-[the first] nine. Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out." Additionally, the film's writer, Jonathan Tropper, expressed his enthusiasm for the project to Screen Rant, hinting at a sooner-than-expected release. The film, which will star Ryan Gosling, has been scheduled for release on May 28, 2027, as announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan.
