"New Predator Unveiled in 'Badlands' Trailer: Distinctly Different"
The highly anticipated sci-fi action sequel, Predator: Badlands, has just released its teaser trailer, sending waves of excitement through the fanbase. In the teaser, we are introduced to Elle Fanning's character, who appears to be living on a perilous, remote planet in the future. What sets this installment apart is the unique twist on the Predator character, who, intriguingly, may be the protagonist this time around. The teaser boldly states, "The director of Prey welcomes you to a world of pain," hinting at the intense journey ahead.
The trailer not only showcases a new-look Predator but also teases connections to the Alien universe, sparking speculation about a potential setup for a new *Aliens vs Predator* movie. Elle Fanning's character appears to have eyes reminiscent of the Weyland Yutani reboot from *Alien: Romulus*, suggesting she might be a synthetic. Additionally, a glimpse of the Weyland Yutani logo—the infamous megacorporation central to the Alien franchise—can be seen on a damaged vehicle, further fueling crossover theories.
That's the Weyland Yutani logo on Elle Fanning's eyes. Is she a synth?
Predator: Badlands was announced to be in development in February 2024, with its release date confirmed in October of the same year. While the trailer was first showcased at CinemaCon earlier this month, this marks the first time fans have been able to see what's in store for them.
At CinemaCon, 20th Century Studios unveiled the official synopsis for the film: "In the future on a remote planet, a young Predator, outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary."
Elle Fanning shared some insights about her role at CinemaCon, stating, "Something unprecedented happens in this movie. My character is not the one being chased. My character actually teams up with the Predator. And you get to see him in a completely new light. And... I'll stop there!"
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, known for his work on 10 Cloverfield Lane and the Predator prequel Prey, Predator: Badlands is co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison. The film is slated to hit theaters on November 7, 2025.
